Berry-Apple Slump


A slump is a "New England" term.  It usually

consists of dumplings dropped onto hot, sweetened fruit.

 

1 C. Water

1 C. Fresh or Frozen Blueberries

2/3 C. Sugar

1 C. Peeled and Chopped "Cooking" Apples (ex. NOT Red Delicious)

 

3/4 C. Cranberries (optional)

In a 3-qt. saucepan, combine all of the above. Bring to a boil, reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 5 minutes. Meanwhile mix topping.

TOPPING

3/4 C. Flour

1 tsp. Baking Powder

1/8 tsp. Ground Nutmeg

1/3 C. Milk

1/4 C. Sugar

1/4 tsp. Ground Cinnamon

3 Tbsp. Butter or Margarine

 

Mix dry ingredients. Cut in butter until mixture resembles course crumb. Add milk, stir just to moisten. Drop dumpling mixture in 6 mounds atop hot filling. Cover and simmer 15 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.

 

Serve warm, plain or with cream (either light or whipped)
